The last thing you want to find out is that you won’t recoup the cost of your kitchen remodel.
Follow these tips to avoid it:

  1. Know Your Neighborhood
Before you splurge on a $20K range or waterfall countertops, ask:
Would buyers in your area expect or pay for that?If the rest of the homes nearby have
modest kitchens, don’t get top-of-the-line cabinets. You won’t recoup the cost.
  2. Match the Rest of the Home
A high-end, ultra-modern kitchen in a midcentury ranch or starter home can feel out of
place. Keep updates in line with the style, scale, and value of the rest of the house.
  3. Don’t Chase Trends Too Hard
Bold cabinet colors, gold finishes, open shelving may be in right now, but will they be in 5
    years?
Stick to timeless choices for big-ticket items and add trends with things that are easy to
chang like barstools, lighting, or backsplash tile.
  4. Avoid Full Gut Jobs If You Don’t Need One
New cabinets can be $15K–$50K+. If the layout works and the boxes are solid:
    Paint or reface the cabinets
    Update hardware
Swap out countertops or appliances as needed
Small changes can make a huge visual impact.
  5. Don’t DIY What You’re Not Qualified For
One badly hung cabinet or uneven tile job can tank your return on investment. If it’s out of
your skillset, hire a pro or skip it altogether.
  6. Focus on Function Over Flash
Soft-close drawers and a good layout matter more than built-in espresso machines or
designer faucets. Think about how it works, not just how it looks.
